Yggdrasil and The Pagan Year

The Pagan Year

1) Spring Equinox (Ostara) – It is the energy of Order from Asgard. It is the energy that invokes new life and new beginnings by synchronizing man’s intelligence and reason with divine intervention.

2) Beltane – It is the energy of Togetherness from Vanaheim. It is the energy that joins man to woman and, consequently, tribe to tribe through peace and abundance.

3) Midsummer (Litha) – It is the energy of Action from Muspelheim. It is the energy the spurns man to sudden or unplanned action—sometimes due to anger or irrational behavior.

4) Lammas – It is the energy of Darkness from Swartalfheim. It is the energy that cause’s man to toil and labor in the Earth (dirt/soil) for the fruits that sustain his physical existence—just as the Swartalfar are greedily attached to the treasures of inner Earth.

5) Autumn Equinox (Mabon) – It is the energy of Chaos from Jotunheim. It is the energy that shifts the ending of one era to the beginning of another through transition and transformation (dark night of the soul).

6) Samhain – It is the energy of Separateness from Hel. It is the energy that marks the separation of man from woman, tribe from tribe, through death and conflict.

7) Midwinter (Yule) – It is the energy of Constraint from Nifelheim. It is the energy that cause’s man to restrain or delay his actions—usually due to fear or anticipation of an outcome.

8) Candlemas (Imbolc) – It is the energy of Light from Lightalfheim. It is the energy that cause’s man to look to the gods and the heavens, not the Earth, for his sustenance and survival—with a self-initiation or pledge to renew one’s spirit.

Polar Opposites

1) Spring Equinox is the seasonal polar opposite of Autumn Equinox as the energy of Asgard (Aesir/Order) is in constant equilibrium with the opposing energy of Jotunheim (Giants/Chaos).

2) Beltane is the seasonal polar opposite of Samhain as the energy of Vanaheim (Vanir/Togetherness) is in constant equilibrium with the opposing energy of Hel (Dead/Separateness).

3) Midsummer is the seasonal polar opposite of Midwinter as the energy of Muspelheim (Fire/Action) is in constant equilibrium with the opposing energy of Nifelheim (Frost/Constraint).

4) Lammas is the seasonal polar opposite to Candlemas as the energy of Swartalfheim (Dark Elves/Darkness) is in constant equilibrium with the opposing energy of Lightalfheim (Light Elves/Light).

Summary

Each realm of Yggdrasil is more significant to the Earth during its corresponding season. It promotes a kind of macro-mindset to the humans who experience it. However, all the 8 realms are interacting with the Earth to a greater or lesser degree at any given time. There is no additional energy assertion when 1 realm intersects with another realm in the exact same location. Due to the Earth’s rotation and its dynamic (seasonal) positioning within the 8 realms, these intersections are always temporary and seemingly unpredictable. The existence of Ley Lines and ancient Pagan ruins are representative of intuitive, shamanic attempts to depict the physical interaction between Midgard and the other 8 realms. When the shaman claims that travel between the realms always involves a trip to or from Midgard, it is nothing more than stating the obvious—a fact of physicality.

The precise, constant, predictable rotation of the Earth is a physical dynamic caused by the energies and forces exerted in equilibrium by the opposing 8 realms surrounding Midgard. With the loss of Midgard, all realms would perish. With the loss of one of the 8 realms, the opposite polar realm would also be lost which would throw the Universe into immediate disorder. For this reason, when Surt dispatches the destructive fires of Muspelheim against the Earth, the Ragnarok will surely commence.

The Lost Years

Recent findings indicate that Jesus Christ worshiped with the Druids. If one were to ask Jesus what his 'religion' was, his answer just might have been, "Druid".

During his 'Lost Years', Jesus traveled to England several times and studied as both a youth and an adult with the Druids. Why? His mother Mary was the only child born of Ann-- a high-priestess with the Druids of England. The first physical 'church' ever built was NOT Peter's church on the rock-- it was a church initiated by Jesus himself when he lived among the Druids in Glastonbury. It began with a single thatch hut, built by Jesus before he returned to Judea, and years later 12 identical huts were constructed in a circle around the 'house that Jesus built' (this 12-and-1 configuration obviously representing the Pagan Calendar with the Sun in the middle).

These and hundreds more accounts can be found in hidden Vatican documents that have been recently analyzed by independent researchers. The Vatican knows that Jesus was thoroughly educated in Buddhism, Hinduism, Egyptian Mysteries and Pagan/Druid practice. Tricia McCannon has spent years researching these hidden Vatican documents to write her highly acclaimed book: Jesus: The Explosive Story of the 30 Lost Years and the Ancient Mystery Religions

Tricia McCannon's book is a MUST read for anyone needing to validate Jesus' direct link to the Pagan/Heathen tradition and Northern Mythology!!!

Days of the Week; Months of the Year

The days of the week are undisputedly named after the gods of Northern Mythology. Period. At one time, there were only ten months in the calendar year before two additional months were added for political reasons-- similar to the way we name highways and libraries after our U.S. presidents. While many of the 'gods of the month' were gods invented by the Romans with no apparent counterpart, these gods possess many of the same traits assigned to earlier Mesopotamian gods and, ultimately, correspond to specific gods of Northern Mythology from whence most of the known gods originate.

DAYS OF THE WEEK:

Sunday was named after the Sun god, Sunday.

Monday was named after the moon goddess, Munday.

Tuesday was named after the god Tyr, Tyrsday.

Wednesday was named after the god Odin, Odinsday or Wodensday.

Thursday was named after the god Thor, Thorsday.

Friday was named after the goddess Frigga, Friggsday.

Saturday was named after the god Saturn, Saturnsday.

MONTHS OF THE YEAR:

January was named for Janus, the Roman mighty one of portals and patron of beginnings and endings, to whom this month was sacred. He is shown as having two faces, one in front, the other at the back of his head, supposedly to symbolize his powers

February is derived from Februa, a Roman festival of purification. It was originally the month of expiation.

March is named for Mars, the Roman mighty one of war.

April is derived from the Latin APRILIS, indicating a time of Fertility. It was believed that this month is the month when the earth was supposed to open up for the plants to grow.

May is named for Maia, the Roman female deity of growth or increase.

June is sometimes attributed to June, the female mighty one of the marriage, the wife of Jupiter in Roman mythology. She was also called the "Queen of heaven" and " Queen of mighty ones." The name of this month is also attributed to Junius Brutus, but originally it most probably referred to the month in which crops grow to ripeness.

July is named for the Roman emperor Julius Caesar, this is the seventh month of the Gregorian year.

August is named for Octavius Augustus Caesar, emperor of Rome; the name was originally from augure, which means, "to increase."

September is derived from the Latin septem, meaning "seven."

October comes from the Latin root octo, meaning "eight."

November is derived from Latin novem, meaning "ninth."

December is derived from the Latin decem, meaning "ten."

Zeitgiest and Religion

There IS such a thing as the Pagan Calendar. It represents the months, seasons, equinoxes, as well as astrology. Its central point is the sun. The Christian crucifix is an adaptation of the Pagan spiritual symbol representing the 'Cross of the Zodiac' demarking the Pagan Calendar-- the sun's relation to the months, seasons and equinoxes. Most importantly, this calendar has existed as far back as history can be recorded; and prior to recorded history it was a necessary oral tradition. With that being said, this blog post is a response to the infamous Zeitgiest videos on YouTube which promote the theory that Christianity is a 'myth' created to control the masses-- that Jesus never really existed.

To begin with, let us review some of the information presented to us by Zeitgiest:

I. The Story of Jesus Christ

- Born of a Virgin (Mary, Myrra, Maya)
- December 25th
- Star in the East (Sirius); Three kings (stars in Orion's Belt)
- Child teacher at age of 12
- Babtized at 30 to begin ministry
- Perform miracles (water into wine)
- 12 Disciples (12 Astrological signs)
- Crucified
- Dead for 3 Days
- Resurrected
- Ascended into Heaven
- Referred to as "Savior"; "King of Kings"; "Alpha and Omega"; "the Truth"; "the Light"
- Worship on 'Sunday'

The following gods and historical figures are said to possess all or most of the above traits of Jesus Christ as recorded in historical text/scripture:

- Horus, Egypt 3000BC (sun god)
- Joseph, Mesopotamia 2150BC (Old Testament)
- Attis, Greece 1200BC
- Mithra, Persia 1200BC
- Krishna, India 900BC
- Dionysus, Greece 500BC
- Indra of Tibet, Jao of Nepal, Orus of Egypt, Thammuz of Syria, Adad of Assyria, Beddru of Japan, Hesus of the Druids, Ixion and Quirinus of Rome

II. Procession of the Equinoxes (Ages)

- 2150 year Ages within a 26,000 year cycle
- Age of Taurus (the Bull): 4300BC - 2150BC (ends with Moses, Old Testament)
- Age of Aries (the Ram): 2150BC - 1AD (begins with Moses, Old Testament)
- Age of Pisces (the Fish): 1AD - 2150AD (begins with Jesus Christ, New Testament)
- Age of Aquarius (Water bearer): 2150AD - 4130AD (the next Age)
- each Age adapts a 'universal theology' to suit the times in which they are living

III. Moses birth and upbringing

- identical to Sargon of Akkad, Mesopotamia, dated 2250BC

IV. Moses on Mount Sanai

- identical to other historical 'lawgivers' Manou of India, Minos of Crete, and Mises of Egypt

V. The Ten Commandments

- also found in the 'Egyption Book of the Dead and Papyrus of Ani' dated 4100BC

VI. Noah and The Great Flood

- identical to the Epic of Gilgamesh dated 2600BC

Zeitgiest appears most thorough and accurate by its accounts, and it is futile to debate or discredit the claims made there. Historians and archeologists have validated many of the timelines and events in the Bible as true, but there are still many anomolies, inconsistencies and translation issues which remain confusing. But on a much grander scale, more significant than Christianity, the real issue here is 'myth' versus 'fact'. As time goes by, mankind seems to operate more-and-more within the paradigm that stipulates "if it is written down then it is history-- it is fact". In contrast, if something is merely word-of-mouth then it is generally considered rumor, or myth. Bearing this in mind, the sole purpose of the Council of Nicea, in my humble opinion, was to "write it all down". By publishing it all neatly in writing, the Bible became the definitive conglomeration of history and theology considered to be fact. To the exalted reader and lowly parishioner, it was Gospel.

In Zeitgiest, there are many dates mentioned ranging from 4300BC to 2010AD. These dates seem like a large span of time to most of us. Isn't it remarkable to think that Moses lived over 4,000 years ago? Not really. Imagine an oral history that existed thousands of years before that! And imagine this oral history began in the region of Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Germany and then was propogated around the globe as the 'universal theology' that all other cultures built upon. Sure, all the stories sound the same-- why wouldn't they?. There are legends of Odin trekking across the world and teaching other cultures about 'the gods' and 'the runes'. There are recorded accounts of Odin and the Phoenicians, Odin and the Egyptians, and Odin and the East Asians that involved a sharing of alphabet, language and theology that evolved into the major belief systems that we know today.

Prior to written language, the runes were used solely for divination and religious ritual. But, in all practicality, the runes were an alphabet-- a phonetic alphabet. According to legend, Odin acquired the runes by sacrificing himself (to himself) on the Tree of Yggdrasil. The runes then became a function of man's connection to the gods and an implement of his fate. In the process of Odin disseminating the knowledge of the runes to the rest of the world, and thus the knowledge of the gods, each culture adapted the runes to invent their own alphabet/language while the religious oral tradition became their own customized theology. We can only imagine how, just like the Council of Nicea, each culture modified and molded Odin's 'universal theology' to fit within their own ideology according to the Age and times that they were living in.

While Odin kept the runes as instruments of divination and maintained his 'universal theology' as an oral practice, the rest of the world created alphabets and languages from the runes in order to record their own versions of the truth passed down to them from the 'All-Father' Odin. It is not that complicated, really. Judeo-Christian doctrine describes the Tower of Babel to be the work of Satan created to "confuse and divide man with many different tongues". This metaphor clearly fortells how the ancient oral tradition will be reinterpreted and customized so many times that it would no longer reflect the original account. To put things into a timeline perspective, many scholars believe the oral tradition of Northern Mythology pre-dates all Judeo-Christian references (such as the Tower of Babel) by thousands of years.

The good news, perhaps, is that no one here is really wrong. While all religions repeat the same underlying message, and all religions depict similar deities and events, it becomes more resolute in my mind that there are elements of the truth in them all. Does it matter what 'name' we call the gods or saints? Does it matter which account described the Great Flood first? While Zeitgiest set out to disprove Christianity and discredit the Bible, it actually played out as just another piece of the puzzle. When one suddenly considers that all religion is a popularized reconstruction of Northern Mythology (an ancient oral tradition) then it is tempting to "throw the baby out with the bath water". Ironically, Zeitgiest fully supports my theory that the Pagan oral tradition is the foundation of Judeo-Christianity; and I see no need to throw the bath water out the window yet.

The gods of Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Christianity, Paganism, and neo-Paganism are all similar because they all represent the same Odinic source. Like a scripted movie, it's all there. Heaven. Hell. Angels. Demons. Sacrifices. Divine Intervention. Apocalypse. Study Northern Mythology--study the runes--and it all begins to make sense. Maybe the god of Israel is NOT the same as the Christian god depicted in the Bible. And maybe the god of Islam is NOT the same as the Judeo-Christian gods either. But that's OK, isn't it? We can just pick our favorite team and leave it at that. Everything eventually returns back to the One source in the universe from whence it came, right? And maybe that all happens following the Ragnarok...

Giants, Dwarves and Elves

If religion, theology and mythology speak openly of giants in both a practical and magical sense, then why has this topic become taboo in modern society? Archeologists and anthropologist around the world have uncovered skeletal remains of 9 feet tall humans; in addition to ancient tools and habitations that would indicate the existence of humans (giants) of far greater stature. Aboriginal and indigenous tribes of all nations speak of giants who once lived among them—even describing their daily habits as well as their temperamental likes and dislikes. The biblical Old Testament, a presumably conservative text, makes it a point to reference the significance of giants in the evolution of earth and mankind in the book of Genesis. And we all have heard the story of David and Goliath. So with concrete evidence to support their existence, why do we now consider giants to fall within the realm of fairy tales and childish fables?

While traveling the world and visiting Hindu ashrams, Buddhist temples and Christian cathedrals, I paid particular attention to the murals, paintings, tile-works, and engravings that boldly depicted giants, dwarves and elves participating in battles, rituals and other significant religious events. Upon close inspection, it was easy to discern which beings were the ‘good guys’ and which beings were the ‘bad guys’. Within all religious venues there were Elvin/Angels who came to the aid of mankind while maniacal Dwarves and Giants were wreaking havoc all around. Along the same lines, the most unsuspecting of devoted followers have described accounts of demons and spirits with wings, fangs, claws and glowing eyes haunting them at night. Jesus Christ acknowledged both the presence and looming threat of such negative entities in the New Testament. In contrast, there are benevolent Elvin/Angels of light who instill peace, love and joy to anyone fortunate enough to be graced by their presence. By many accounts, the Elvin/Angels serve as Messengers of good news and helpful warnings. But this is all just fantasy, right?

In one of my favorite books, Freya Aswynn’s Northern Mysteries and Magick, there is a chapter entitled The Nine Worlds. In no uncertain terms, Freya Aswynn discusses the higher Astral realms, the Middle realms, and the lower Subterranean realms where the giants, dwarves, and elves originated and now reside. Aswynn describes, in detail, the purpose and motives of these entities in relation to the earth (the middle realm of Midgard) and to the universe (the 9 realms of Yggdrasil). The significance of Northern Mythology in relation to giants, dwarves and elves is clear—it affords us the opportunity to fully understand such entities. Just as significant, Aswynn describes the physical Elements and the specific Runes that motivate and regulate these entities and their interactions with humans.

The following are extracts from Freya Aswynn’s book ‘Northern Mysteries and Magick’ which provide a basic introduction as to why and how these entities exist:

ASTRAL (higher) REALM

Gods (1)
------

“Asgard is the realm of the Aesir gods ruled by Odin. It is the location of the Twelve Palaces where each of the gods currently dwells in his/her own house. These Twelve Palaces can be directly superimposed on the twelve astrological houses. Asgard’s corresponding rune is the Gebo rune because a sacrifice is often required to gain access to this realm. The guardian to invoke and placate for admission is Heimdal (Odin’s son) who functions in this respect as a dweller on the threshold and might challenge your right of entry.”

Angels (2)
--------
“Vanaheim is the home of the Vanir, and the deity to invoke in this case is Frey. Vanaheim is a pleasant realm, as the Vanir are the gods of peace and plenty. The Inguz rune is the key to Vanaheim. Inguz lends itself to functioning as an astral portal.”

Elves (3)
------
“The proprietor of Lightalfheim (or Alfheim) is Frey, who was given it as a tooth-gift according to the sagas. Inhabited by elves (or lightalfar), it is also the natural world of fertility and of plants and animals. Its guardian is an elf, Delling, who is associated with sunrise; for that reason the key rune of this realm is Sowulo.”

MIDGARD (middle) REALM

Humans (4)
---------

“Midgard is the Earth, where humankind lives. It’s guardian and defender is Thor, friend of farmers and workers. Jera is the rune most compatible to this world, since Jera’s element is earth. Moreover, Earth is the only realm subject to Time, which is another one of Jera’s attributes. Midgard is the field of action where all other worlds interact. It is also the place where traveling starts, and the point of departure of both astral and shamanic traveling."

Destroyer (5)
-----------

“Muspelheim, the world of creative and destructive Fire, is ruled by Surt—the destroyer at the Ragnarok (Armageddon). It is inadvisable to try reaching this world. As this is also one of the realms responsible for both creation and destruction by Fire. The appropriate rune is the Dagaz rune.”

Dragon (6)
--------

“Nifelheim is diametrically opposed to Muspelheim and is controlled by the dragon Nidhogg. It is the world of creative and destructive Frost. It is from Nifelheim that the ship Naglfari, the ship of the dead, will sail with Loki (Satan) at the helm during the Ragnarok (Armageddon). The rune allocated to this world is the Nauthiz rune, which is a rune of constraint and therefore keeps the inhabitants of Nifelheim in their place until the appointed time. The Nauthiz rune is the ‘fetter’ that binds Loki until the appointed time.”

SUBTERRANEAN (lower) REALM

Dwarves (7)
---------

“Swartalfheim, which literally means “home of the dark elves,” is the world of the dwarves (or swartalfar), who are the counterparts of the lightalfar/elves. They are useful beings but not very friendly. They do not take very well to Aesir or humankind and it is only by inducements and threats that it is possible to come to any arrangement with them. They are greedy and treacherous and rule the treasures of inner Earth such as minerals and precious stones. Their ruler is Modsognir, and the rune allocated to this world is the Eihwaz rune.”

Hell (8)
-----

“The realm of Hel is ruled by Loki’s daughter, Hella. It is the realm from which knowledge of the dead can be retrieved. It is here that Odin conjures up the dead volva. Hella, however, will demand her price! The rune to use is the Hagalaz rune.”

Giants (9)
--------

“Jotunheim is also hostile, as it is inhabited by the giants who represent the forces of chaos. The ruler of the giants is Thrym who is utterly hardhearted and an avowed enemy of Thor. Since the prevailing element is Jotunheim is Ice, the Isa rune is associated with this world.”

King Solomon and Odin (cont.)

Odin is credited with 'discovering' The Runes during a period of self-sacrifice and suspension between the realms of Midgard and Asgard. King Solomon being the incarnation of Odin himself explains the direct correlation between Ecclesiastes 3 and The Runes logically.

Further evidence which supports that King Solomon was Odin incarnate can be found in the biblical scripture I Kings (11:4-13) where Solomon practices his Pagan/Heathen beliefs. Notice that the scripture (below) begins with "When Solomon was old..." which is when he wrote Ecclesiastes 3 and described the "scattering and gathering" of runes:

***

I Kings, 11:4-13

When Solomon was old his wives had turned his heart to strange gods, and his heart was not entirely with the LORD, his God, as the heart of his father David had been. By adoring Astarte, the goddess of the Sidonians, and Milcom, the idol of the Ammonites, Solomon did evil in the sight of the LORD; he did not follow him unreservedly as his father David had done.

Solomon then built a high place to Chemosh, the idol of Moab, and to Molech, the idol of the Ammonites, on the hill opposite Jerusalem. He did the same for all his foreign wives who burned incense and sacrificed to their gods. The LORD, therefore, became angry with Solomon, because his heart was turned away from the LORD, the God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice (for though the LORD had forbidden him this very act of following strange gods, Solomon had not obeyed him).

So the LORD said to Solomon: “Since this is what you want, and you have not kept my covenant and my statutes which I enjoined on you, I will deprive you of the kingdom and give it to your servant. I will not do this during your lifetime, however, for the sake of your father David; it is your son whom I will deprive. Nor will I take away the whole kingdom. I will leave your son one tribe for the sake of my servant David and of Jerusalem, which I have chosen.”

It is important to mention here that Odin's son Heimdal, as Jesus Christ, was considered a "heretic" by the sole remaining tribe of David in Israel (the Jews). Christ/Heimdal was crucified for his 'Odinic' beliefs which contrasted greatly with the lone tribe which now followed the One god who had rebuked Solomon/Odin in the above Old Testament passage. The 'miracles' and 'magic' performed by Christ/Heimdal were considered "blasphemy" to the followers of a more strict, rigid and conservative god of Judaic origin. Sadly enough, Solomon/Odin desparately tried to connect with his 'kin', his descendents, through his son Christ/Heimdal... but the god of Israel and his mandates would have no part in it. And to make things even worse, the Christians are dazed and confused somewhere in-between!

It is easy to see why the Pagan/Heathen community maintains such an ambiguous relationship with the Judeo-Christians to this very day. To put it bluntly, the god of the Jews is clearly NOT the same god as the Pagan/Heathen god(s). And the Christians are actually following the doctrine of Pagan/Heathen beliefs (Odin/Heimdal) while paying homage to the Northern gods of Yggdrasil that they reverently refer to as "Saints".

It is widely acknowledged that modern-day Christian holidays are of undisputed Pagan/Heathen origin (Easter, Halloween, Christmas) which supports a most logical, harmonious compromise. The irony here is that the original Pagan/Heathen festivals are not 'materialistic' at all; while the Christian adaptation of these holidays focus primarly on boosting Retail sales worldwide.
